What's it made of

These sweaters are made of 85% organic, ringspun combed cotton and 15% post-consumer recycled polyester, creating 3-ply brushed Low Shrinkage Fleece. The fabric is also enzyme washed.

A lot of fancy fabric terms, so time for the translation:

Number 1: Organic cotton is grown ecologically from natural compost (instead of yukky chemical fertilizers and pesticides). It is grown without GMOs (genetically modified stuff) in order to prevent harm to the ecosystems around the production fields or damage to the biodiversity of animal species. Conclusion: way better for the environment.

Number 2: Ringspun cotton: This kind of cotton provides a smoother fabric surface and is softer to the touch. So your new favorite tee is even more pleasant to wear.

Number 3: Combed cotton is actually exactly what happens; the cotton is “combed” before it’s made into fabric. The result is that the fabric is softer because it lacks short threads to stick out and prickle (we all know those horrible prickly fabrics are some of life’s biggest little annoyances), and all dirt and impurities have been removed from the thread. The fabric is also stronger because all the short and breakable fibers are removed during the combing.

Number 4: 3-ply low shrinkage fleece refers to a technique where the fabric is pre-shrunk (So it won’t shrink anymore when you wash it!) and the 3-ply refers to the 3 layers of fabric, the extra-soft 100% cotton top layer, the middle layer of polyester (that makes the fabric more resistant) and the inner layer of cotton and polyester for a soft and comfy finish.

Number 5: Enzyme washing is a special bio-polishing treatment to make the fabric clean, smooth, and without imperfections giving it a soft touch and a perfect printing finish.

So conclusion:

It’s a doubly soft fabric that won’t shrink in the wash, made in a way that is better for the environment.

But what about the post-consumer thingy?

Post-consumer recycling means recycling materials or clothes that have already been used, giving them a second or third (or fourth, or fifth, or whatever number) life. The 15% recycled polyester in these sweaters equals 4 recycled 50cl plastic bottles.
